Cameron Against Avatar on iPhone
James Cameron? Opinionated? Perish the thought.
During a press conference this week heralding the Blu-ray release of Avatar, the blockbuster savant riffed about his disdain for movies on a small screen, calling out the iPhone and laptops specifically.
"I think it's dumb, when you have characters that are so small in the frame that they're not visible." Cameron quipped, pointing a finger at Apple's darling. "If someone wants to watch it on an iPhone, I'm not going to stop them, especially if they're paying for it, but I don't recommend it."
What Cameron does recommend, is that folks who want to watch movies as he feels they are meant to be seen, should get rid of their coffee tables and move their couch four feet away from the screen. Yes - that'll be much easier on the eyes than watching a film on a smartphone.
Cameron's feelings on the matter echo those of director David Lynch, who in late 2009 lamented the viewing of movies on mobile phones.*

This is pretty much a non issue. No one's going to opt to watch a movie like avatar on their phone if they have access to a bigger screen. I have watched 3 movies on my iphone, all of which were during an interstate train ride, and I had no other screen to use.
Does any one really sit in their living room and watch movies on their phone instead of a tv or computer? Cameron is presenting a dichotomy that doesn't exist.

Yeah!! I would prefer to watch a movie like Avatar in theater rather than on a small iPhone screen. I totally agree with Cameron.

I agree. For a movie like Avatar, watching it on a small iPhone screen would be a huge waste of time, not to mention the strain that it would put on your eyes.
