Apple really seems to know how to time their roll outs and their upgrades to keep interest at the maximum peak. First there was the iPad, then the announcement of what was then called iPhone OS 4.0, then all the "leaks" of the fourth generation iPhone, then the iPhone 4 along with iOS 4 and Safari 5.0 and the new Mac Minis and new MacBooks and Apple TV and and and there's just no end to it, is there? And as of next week, the brand new mobile operating system will be in everyone's hands for real and honest and – guess what? – we'll all be buzzing about that for weeks on end. Yeah, Apple's really got the whole release cycle down pat.
Meanwhile, here's the latest and the greatest from what's buzzing around the Mac|Life crew.
Features:
- 17 Cool Safari 5.0 Features and Tips Revealed - We did mention Safari 5.0, right? Well, turns out the latest upgrade brings speediness along with a few new features we're rather fond of. Right now, though, two standouts top our list and fight for first place of our hearts: extensions (at last, at last!) and the awesome new Reader button. Want to know some more Safari goodness? Well, you've come to the right place.
- The 13 Best Nintendo DS Titles Now Available in the App Store - While it's a pretty much almost never to happen that Nintendo lets its DS titles show up in the App store, there's still quite a few third party gamemakers out there who've decided to port their DS titles over to the iDevice line of mobile gaming. We've picked out a baker's dozen that are sure to satisfy your Nintendo craving, even as Mario sits alone and sighs.

How-Tos:
- Getting the Cisco VPN Client to Work with Snow Leopard - Now that more and more businesses are deciding to make the shift to Apple (Google, anyone?), some of you might be having a little difficulty in getting your VPN set up just right on Snow Leopard. You know where this is going, don't you? Of course you do. Mac|Life to the rescue! Who loves you, baby?
- iPhone and iPad Tips of the Week - June 17, 2010 - Shhh, don't read this on your – cough, cough – iPhone 3G, but we've got a bit of friendly advice of what to do with your trusty old companion before you trade it in on an upgrade. Keep it on the downlow, though. Tell the kids the old iPhone now lives at a farm. That's the trick.
Reviews:
- Instapaper Pro Review - In the first of our dead-tree related app reviews of the week, we have a true favorite with Mac|Life readers, Instapaper Pro. Developer Marco Arment took a simple idea, make long web pages available offline for later reading, and send them to your mobile. A few tweaks has this iPhone classic looking sharp on the iPad.
- The Early Edition Review - While newspapers may soon go the way of the dodo, there's something to be said for the comforting layout and design of the great front page. The designers behind The Early Edition RSS reader take your clunky boring RSS lists and turn them into a visually arresting front page that makes the iPad your new newspaper.
News:
Okay, okay, of course the big news this week was iPhone 4 pre-orders. Everyone was taking them, even Best Buy...of course they weren't the only ones and we showed you the line up for here in the States....early trade in numbers were pretty impressive leading to some speculation that this handset was going to fly off the shelves...and if you were hoping to get your greasy mitts on a white handset, you were out of luck in the pre-order game, we're sorry to say...and at 4am, the race was on, with AT&T leading the pack in FAIL as their site was tanked by the rush...meanwhile, in countries not blighted with the curse of the single carrier, UK iPhone buyers could pick up a SIM-free handset for whichever carrier suited their fancy...meanwhile, back Stateside, it didn't take long for AT&T to announce that they had completely sold out their stock of the new iPhone...shortly followed by Apple making a similar announcement...all of which led to the biggest day of online sales in AT&T's history as the iPhone 4 sold at ten times the rate of the 3G S...with Apple claiming 600,000 handsets sold in one single day.
All of this huge iPhone news may have made you temporarily forget your iPad. Or at the very least, it's making you drool uncontrollably when you think about how that amazing new display is going to look once Apple gets around to slapping one of those into a 10" screen. And if it does, hopefully Flash in a Pinch will be available and working even if Hulu can't bring itself to get around to making an iPad app...speaking of movies, iMovie for the iPhone 4 is so powerful, only the A4 will run it, which you would think would include the iPad, but oddly, no; must be the lack of camera or maybe you'll just have to wait for iOS 4 to go with it....while you're waiting around, at least you can get some old fashioned typewriter loving with these incredible looking (and sounding) manual USB keyboards for iPads or any other computers...in less pleasant hacking news, AT&T finally got around to responding to Goatse Security's hack of AT&T's stellar network...which of course meant that the hackers had to respond back...and hahaha, it's all fun and games and then someone goes and gets arrested...we're sure this was all over Twitter, as these things tend to be, and when we checked with Twitterific for the iPad, it let us know what other trending topics were out there, such as, wow, Apple sold a lot of iPhones....it's the kind of thing that might make the news, and there might even be a juicy picture to accompany the story, and that picture just might be on the Guardian UK , and luckily, as these things go, there's an app for that.
