AT&T is on stage at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Wednesday with a flurry of announcements, including a new option for U-verse television customers to enjoy extra content on their iPads.
Engadget is reporting that AT&T’s U-verse division has some new tricks in store for iPad owners in the near future, with a brand-new option called “ComplemenTV” that aims to go beyond simply watching shows on the device. The new functionality was unveiled Wednesday at the company’s CES Developer Summit.
According to Peter Hill, Vice-President of ecosystem and innovation for AT&T, the new technology “can easily connect mobile devices to set-top boxes via Wi-Fi” as well as complement DLNA with authentication. Hill used his CES stage time to demonstrate how it all worked with an iPad app.
“At the Summit, a brief demo saw an iPad app schedule a show and control the U-verse DVR, and a brand new option -- dubbed ComplemenTV -- took center stage,” Engadget reports. “Essentially, the iPad was able to look at what channel was being viewed and then delivered relevant extra content on the iPad. Sounds more like an advertiser's dream than anything else, but we're holding out hope for more enticing uses in the near future.”
On the downside, AT&T is mum on when the technology will roll out to iPad owners, but it’s never a bad thing to have something cool to look forward to, is it?
