As we reported late last month, it appears that the single best iOS RPG on the planet (Earth), Chaos Rings, will be getting a prequel release tonight. The game has already released in New Zealand which signifies that it's on its way around the globe, arriving in App Stores world-wide around midnight in that respective time zone.
The game is officially called CHAOS RINGS Ω, and yes, they actually used the omega symbol in their title. (It's as though they're deliberately trying to confuse potential customers.) The game takes place 10,000 years before the events of the first game in the series, but beyond that not much is known.
One of the more exciting aspects of this release is that Square Enix is planning a slew of updates to the title after its launch. They're planning seven monthly updates that add secret bosses, increase level caps, and add content to the experience. It's exciting, but also a bit concerning.
Not all companies have mastered the art of downloadable updates, and some still choose to hold back content from the final version and save it for an update later on. The last thing we want to see is an incomplete RPG that stops mid-way through the game, telling the gamer to stay tuned for an impeding update. Especially with Chaos Rings premium price point of $11.99 (if it's as good as the first game it'll be worth every penny though.) There's also an HD iPad version that will be releasing at the same time.
Nonetheless, we're looking forward to seeing what Square Enix has in store for the future of the Chaos Rings franchise. Chaos Rings Omega is just the tip of the spear. We've also got Chaos Rings 2 coming as well.
