Despite today's focus on the maelstrom of fresh Apple releases and updates, it's business as usual for the rest of the world. Case in point: While we were all busy ogling Cupertino's newest hotness, word broke that gaming giant Electronic Arts has acquired Angry Birds maker Chillingo for a cool $20 million.
Bet you didn't see that one coming.
In a statement made to the Reuters News Service, EA representative Holly Rockwood stated, "by acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple Platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world's leading wireless entertainment publisher." Given the enormous amount success Angry Birds has enjoyed as an iOS application, the $20 million price paid for Chillingo and the Angry Birds brand seems like a pretty good deal. Let's just hope that despite this acquisition, the game's endless stream of free levels will continue to flow.
