China Gets Wi-Fi Enabled iPhones

Sales of the iPhone in China were less than spectacular because of a missing feature: Wi-Fi. The iPhones currently shipping to Chinese technology enthusiasts have Wi-Fi disabled, but that could soon change if a leaked Chinese network access license is real. Chinese regulation prohibited Wi-Fi on the device, but the cellular communications companies that provide the iPhone want Wi-Fi to be standard.
On the Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center’s website (Google Translated Link), an iPhone 3G or 3GS is pictured for the wireless LAN license approval. This means Apple would be able to sell the device with Wi-Fi enabled.
Apple has yet to announce a potential iPhone with Wi-Fi in China, but China Unicom said they were currently in talks with Apple to provide the device with Wi-Fi. Unicom also said they are working with Apple to bring the iPhone 4 and iPad to China.
There is currently no word yet on if or when the device will make its way to the country. One would hope that this move could land Apple larger sales in China.
