Apple has finally put the Proview trademark lawsuit behind it, which means the company can start to focus on releasing the new iPad in China at long last. According to one blog in that country, Cupertino may be planning to do just that on July 27.
The Next Web is reporting that Apple may have already pinned a date on the calendar for the debut of its third-generation iPad in China, and it's looking like July 27, 2012.
Apple received regulatory approval for the new iPad back in March for the Wi-Fi only model and in May for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model; the tablet's 4G LTE is incompatible with current Chinese networks, so buyers there will get 3G data at best.
That leaves only the Proview trademark case as the final hangup, which Apple has now resolved with a $60 million settlement.
According to Chinese blog PC Pop, the stage is now set for Apple to release the new iPad in China on July 27, with an official announcement likely arriving sometime in the next week.
Here's hoping that launch goes smoother than the one for the iPhone 4S, which brought out the worst in many Chinese fans after one Apple Store delayed its opening.
