There was a time when the Commodore Amiga completely trumped the Mac for gaming, and it was during this heyday when Cinemaware reigned with lavish titles such as Wings, which is now using Kickstart to launch a major HD redux of the classic title.
Cinemaware has announced a Kickstarter campaign to relaunch Wings, one of its classic Commodore Amiga-era game titles from 22 years ago. Billed as "a personal combat experience," the title was hailed by critics as an instant classic, and now the developer wants to relaunch it for the 21st century.
"Cinemaware is planning to bring this unique, emotion-charged, action-packed gaming experience back to life -- in full, glorious HD graphics & sound!" the company's Kickstarter page reads. "For that to happen, we are looking for the support of all our fans and gamers in general who want to relive this classic game once more on modern platforms!"
The company is looking for a minimum goal of $350,000, which will be used to "recreate the original game in all its glory -- but this time, with full HD graphics & sound, enhanced animations, a revised UI and enhancements to the control interface in order to support current input methods such as touchscreen control."
Naturally, the target platforms include iOS and Android tablets and smartphones as well as Mac, Windows and Linux, but Cinemaware is also eyeing game consoles as well. "The game will be DRM-free and no additional content will be up for sale -- you get the whole game in its entire, original glory!" they promise.
The ambitious Kickstarter campaign has 27 days to go and has raised just over 10 grand to date, so let's get out there and fund this impressive effort to resurrect one of Cinemware's classic titles!
