The Neverhood was hardly Doom when it came to popularity when it released way back in 1996, but this adventure game was (and still is) extremely unique. That's thanks in large part to the fact that its graphics are 100% claymation.
That doesn't mean that the developers invented a way of making computer graphics look like clay, either. It's actually all interactive film footage of claymation. Despite being extremely cool (and a high quality adventure game too) the game was a huge commercial flop, selling under 50,000 copies. It was consider a victim of the mid-ninties adventure genre crash.
Now, however, the game has a new chance at life. It was confirmed to Joystiq by developer Bazinga Studios that they are currently trying to negotiate the licensing complexities of bringing an old game back from the dead. Which can be a nightmare because so many of the companies involved no longer exist or have 100% new personel.
Bazinga said they couldn't divulge any other details right now, but we're hoping they can make this happen. Other old games have been able to surmount the licensing issues and release on the iPhone, so we're hoping The Neverhood can do so as well.
