If you're lucky enough to live in a part of the US that features WiMax, then you'll definitely appreciate that Clearwire will soon be offering up Mac drivers for their WiMax hardware cards. Previously the hardware only shipped with Windows drivers, but a recent post on 9 to 5 Mac details that the software for Macs will start shipping on August 17th. People who are already set up with Clearwire will be able to download the Mac drivers as well on that date.
The post also mentions a patent [PDF link] that was submitted last year for an Intel wireless card that mixes Wi-Fi and WiMax into a simple PCI Express Card that could be installed into a notebook, therefore replacing the built-in Wi-Fi card. We're not sure when these dream cards will ship, but we do know many Mac users will probably be happy.
