And so it turns out that the rumors are true. In addition to the signature black and white options we've come to know and love, the iPhone 5S will come in a gold option as well, reports both AllThings D and 9to5Mac. The final model allegedly isn't quite as gaudy as what we saw in the leaked photo on Friday, but it nevertheless marks a significant style shift that's already getting a mixed reception from the Apple faithful.
In the words of AllThingsD, the gold iPhone 5S is meant to exude a more "elegant" aura. "Think champagne, not ingot," said one of AllThingsD's anonymous sources. As you can see from the photo below, it'll have a gold back plate along with a white face as well as champagne-colored chamfered edging. In fact, the clash of colors makes it seem a little off compared to other iPhone models — why not make the face an off-gold color as well, in line with the black-and-slate combo of the core iPhone?
Mark Gurman over at 9to5Mac secured some addition details: "While many have called this new iPhone color 'gold,' our source says that the color is more inline with the yellow fifth-generation iPod touch, but slightly lighter in texture. Some have called this 'champagne' and that sounds about right."
The news wasn't just limited to the new color option for the iPhone 5S; according to Gurman, the device's home button will not have a convex design as rumored, but will instead look much the same as the home button on the iPhone 5.
