When a rumor is not enough, developers are out sending press releases with a full guarantee that a tablet is on the way. Stand Alone, Inc., developers of the popular Crosswords iPhone App, have announced that they are in the process of designing a crosswords application for the as-of-yet unannounced iPad, er, Apple tablet.
The tablet version of Crossroads will contain all of the features of original iPhone app, but will have an optimized user interface "reminiscent of its newspaper roots," according to their official press release. Users will be able solve a myriad of free puzzles, employ the integrated hint and look up systems, and enjoy in-app subscriptions to puzzles from major dailies like the New York Times. The company says their goal is to utilize the larger screen, but keep the intuitive functionality of their user interface that has made the mobile application so popular.
The press release does not contain a purchase link, but this is a good indicator that developers might know something we don't. Rumors abound that Apple has spilled the beans to selected devs to gear up their software for Wednesday's announcement. Was the mobile world's most popular Crosswords app developer made aware of the fabled Wednesday announcement before the rest of us? If Stand Alone was embargoed, they're surely in a pickle now. At least the leak is a good indicator that we have a tablet on the way, hopefully with an iPhone OS.
But then again, at this point we just hope Apple releases a tablet to stop the maddness that has taken over.
