If you really want to get the most out of your Mac, third-party utilities such as Default Folder X can make that happen. And if you happen to be running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, you definitely need their latest update.
St. Clair Software has announced the availability of Default Folder X 4.5, a new version of the company's Mac utility for making file dialogs smarter. After a lengthy beta period, the latest version is finally fully compatible with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 as well as being enhanced for Retina Displays.
But that's not all -- Default Folder X 4.5 now forces Open and Save dialogues to start in the last folder you used to open or save a document, while adding full support for iCloud, should that be the location you choose to save your documents. (But only in supported apps, of course.)
The update also includes a laundry list of bug fixes, squashing them all to guarantee the best possible experience for users of the latest Mac OS X edition.
Best of all, the Default Folder X 4.5 update is free for users who own version 4, as well as for those who purchased version 3 (or upgrade for same) on or after June 1, 2007. For everyone else with an older installation, the upgrade is a wallet-friendly $14.95.
