It was only a few weeks ago that Apple's plans to build a data center
surfaced, and now we have even more details about the 500,000
square-foot facility to be built in Maiden, North Carolina. According to the Charlotte Observer, work on the job site will begin as soon as final annexing decisions are made.
The new facility will provide 50 new jobs and 250 contracts for other employees. It is estimated that Apple will use 20-megawatts of power per year, which could alternatively provide power to thousands of homes annually. It is expected that Apple will use this facility to provide servers for iTunes. You can read the full details about Apple's 1 billion dollar investment on the Charlotte Observer website.
