Apple may be taking a few lumps today over this e-book in-app purchasing scandal, but that’s not stopping them from moving forward with a third beta of the forthcoming iOS 4.3 this fine Tuesday afternoon.
Apple has announced that developers can immediately download and being playing with -- er, make that work with -- iOS 4.3 beta 3, which includes not only the SDK itself but also firmware updates for the second-generation Apple TV, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS and third and fourth-generation iPod touch.
“iOS 4.3 beta 3 and iOS 4.3 SDK beta 3 are now available from the iOS Dev Center,” Apple’s e-mail to developers on Tuesday reads. “Only install iOS 4.3 beta on devices dedicated to testing apps built with iOS SDK 4.3 beta. Continue to use iOS SDK 4.2 to build and compile apps you plan to submit to the App Store.”
According to MacRumors, one handy feature of the iOS 4.3 beta is the ability to cancel an app download in progress or even delete it before it’s completely installed -- which will come in quite handy for large app installs that users have second thoughts about.
“The feature is quite simple to use,” claims App Advice, who first brought the feature to the attention of users. “All you have to do is enter the icon arrangement mode (‘Wiggle mode’) as you normally do to delete an app. This time however, you'll notice the ‘x’ appear over the currently downloading app as well. Just hit it, confirm, and iOS will proceed to interrupt the download and delete the app.”
There hasn’t been word regarding any other goodies tucked away inside iOS 4.3, but Apple appears to be racing ahead with development and we’ll keep you updated on any breaking developments.
