Where oh where is a new MacBook Pro? A new report claims it’s on the way -- but that Apple appears to be more focused on a 13.3-inch model than the 15-inch model that has historically been the most popular size.
DigiTimes is reporting that Apple may begin mass production of a new 15-inch MacBook Pro next month, according to “sources from the upstream supply chain.” Curiously, however, the company appears to be more heavily invested in a smaller 13.3-inch model whose orders are “far higher than those of the 15-inch.”
The report notes that a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro isn’t slated to begin mass production in June, which seems to create some disparity among models of the same family -- might Apple be first releasing an update to the 15-inch model, then saving the smaller version for a few months later?
“The 15-inch MacBook Pro is expected to enjoy a monthly capacity of 100,000-150,000 units initially and will rise gradually,” DigiTimes sources noted, offering no explanation for why Apple might be ordering deeper on the 13.3-inch model.
The same sources also note that Ultrabooks made by other PC suppliers are expected to focus more of their attention on 14-inch and 15-inch models with the next generation, despite having primarily released 13.3-inch models the first time out of the gate.
