Back in July, we reviewed IK Multimedia's iOS-centric DJ hardware, the iRig Mix. While there's plenty to love about the sturdy, portable mixer, the lack of an iPad app to work in congress with the device seemed like a bit of a misstep. Thankfully, the new DJ Rig for iPad will finally provide a bit more breathing room when you're laying down tracks.
The first, and immediately noticeable, feature of DJ Rig for iPad is the extra room afforded by the larger display. While the iPhone version of the app is great -- especially when two devices are hooked up to the iRig Mix -- there's clearly a lot more real estate on the iPad version.

After launching the app ($19.99 in the App Store), most of the familiar DJ Rig controls are there. But the dual-deck setup now offers a few improvements from the iPhone version. Namely, each deck can be set to three different modes.
The Vinyl mode offers the usual scratch setup, naturally. But Digital mode offers a CD-like jogging option, and Waveform mode will let you dive into the more intricate parts of a track, placing cues.
Additionally, 18 different BPM-synced effects are included in the package, six of which are entirely new. Noise, Tail, Brake, Spin, Twist-up, and Twist-down are customizable via the X/Y interface.
DJ Rig for iPad also includes a new sampling setup, with nine slots -- or pads -- for introducing custom samples into your mixes. DJ Rig for iPad is available now in the App Store, but if you're still not too sure about the price tag, there's a limited free version, as well.
