There are already plenty of choices when it comes to consuming Twitter on the iPad, including the company’s own official universal iOS app. But apparently they’re trying to cover all the bases, with a new HTML5 version of Twitter.com now starting to roll out to users.
TechCrunch is reporting that visiting the mobile version of Twitter.com is about to be a new experience, as the company has reworked the iPad version of their website in HTML5 to make it look and feel more like “new Twitter.” If you don’t see it yet on your own iPad, be patient -- the company is rolling it out to all users within the week.
“The app is full HTML5 and an improvement over the current one-paned experience of the Twitter mobile site on the tablet,” notes TechCrunch. “Not surprisingly it is reminiscent of a hybrid of Twitter.com and the mobile apps and was based on Twitter’s HTML5 client for iPhone and Android.”
“The HTML5 app provides a great option for people who prefer to use the browser over native apps,” explains Twitter’s Carolyn Penner. “Its two-column view is consistent with the Twitter experience you’re used to (on Twitter.com), and it takes advantage of touch gestures and other device capabilities.”
While we’re skeptical that many users are actually using the Twitter website on their iPad when so many free and paid third-party options exist, it’s nice to see the company filling in any perceived gaps in their arsenal. If you want to see if it’s showing up on your iPad yet, head over to the mobile version of Twitter and find out.
