Elgato Systems iPhone app, eyeTV, gained video streaming over 3G networks in its latest release.
The $4.99 app lets you watch live TV, view previously recorded shows, check the program guide and set up recordings wirelessly.
In order for it to work, you need a number of things besides your iPhone, including a Mac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor (or better) running EyeTV 3.3.3, and a compatible TV tuner (such as Elgato's eyeTV hybrid, $149.95).
Note that for live TV streaming over a 3G connection, Elgato Systems recommends using it with its Turbo.264 HD video encoder ($149.95), an external device that connects by USB and converts video really fast.
If you've already spent $300 for all that plus the costs of the Mac, an Internet connection, the iPhone, and the phone's service contract, the extra $5 for the app should be a no-brainer.
