We sure hope you're all getting yourselves geared up for next week's unrestrained torrent of awesome. Tuesday morning is the event horizon of the nexus of the eye of a hurricane of tech amazingness. It is, of course, WWDC and E3 all mashed into one. And while Mac|Life will have you covered with all the Apple goodness you can handle from both events, the Electronic Software Association (who runs E3) is launching E3insider, aiming to help people keep track of all the other great gaming news and info coming out of E3.
E3 is a mammoth show to take in. It can literally take weeks to sift through all the info that's announced. This year promises to be even crazier as the list of awesome games grows and grows. Not only that, but this year is something of a débutante ball for iOS gaming, as the iPhone and iPad will finally have a sizeable presence on the show floor. We'll be there to focus on the great iOS gaming software from companies like Gameloft and a myriad of indies.
E3insider.com is aiming to be an official hub for all of the show news, interviews, and previews you can handle. They'll be offering a behind the scenes look at the show as well as streaming all of the major press conferences from the largest games publishers and console makers.
“E3 is the leading computer and video game event in the world. Millions of enthusiasts who want to attend will now be able to have the same incredible experience as the attendees on the exhibit floor,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice president for communications and industry affairs at the ESA in a press release sent to us yesterday. “We’re proud to offer this opportunity to gamers and look forward to their enthusiasm for the innovative and remarkable entertainment that will be unveiled at E3.”
The most interesting feature of the new web site is an interactive "heat map" of the show floor of the convention center. Laid on top of a map of the show's booths and displays will be a heat map that shows where people are clustered. Want to know what booths are getting all of the attention? Well, we'll save you some time: Modern Warfare 3, Batman Arkham City, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Bioshock Infinite. But it could also be used to scope out which smaller games are getting a piece of the attention pie. We're definitely interested to see what kind of utility the map could have.
