FaceTime is a nifty feature of the iPhone 4, allowing you to video chat with another iPhone 4 owner anywhere there's Wi-Fi. But there's a new application for the iPhone 4 that is taking that idea one step higher. FacePlant is a free application that allows you to both video chat and send video voicemails to a fellow iPhone 4 owner.
The application is similar to what you might find in a instant messaging application. You sign up for a free FacePlant account, the application searches through your contacts, then a buddy list is populated with people who are FaceTime-compatible contacts. You can then see contacts that are available to chat, and if you don't want to be disturbed, you can enable a privacy mode. Best of all, you can send a contact a video voicemail and they'll get a push notification to view it right from the application.
According to TUAW, the application will soon be available on the App Store. You can checkout the FacePlant website for more information. You can also sign up for notification of the FacePlant release on their website.
