Is there life beyond Apple? For former senior vice-president and the man many consider to be the "father of Mac OS X" Bertrand Serlet, the answer is yes as he becomes a board member for virtualization software company Parallels.
AllThingsD is reporting that former Mac OS X software boss Bertrand Serlet has found a new home after departing from Apple last year, where he headed up the company's desktop platform for 14 years.
The so-called "father of Mac OS X" is joining the board of directors at Parallels, the company responsible for the popular virtualization software of the same name which allows Mac users to run the likes of Windows and Linux right on their desktop.
Parallels CEO Birger Steen called Serlet “the rare combination of a software visionary and master of execution" in a statement released on Monday announcing the former Apple VP's new role as a non-executive director there.
Serlet came along for the ride when Apple purchased Steve Jobs' NeXT in late 1996, where he helped turn NeXTSTEP into what would soon become Mac OS X. The veteran of Xerox PARC also holds a computer science degree from University of Orsay in France.
