First introduced as the product of a Darmouth College employee back in the summer of 1989, Fetch long been the go-to FTP client for many Mac users. Thankfully, it definitely doesn't suffer from neglect, with a new version arriving this week to ready the software for OS X Mountain Lion.
Fetch Softworks has announced the release of Fetch 5.7.2, an update which brings OS X Mountain Lion compatibility to the venerable Mac FTP client. The update is free for existing users, while a single user license is only $29.
Fetch 5.7.2 adds compatibility with the new Gatekeeper feature of OS X Mountain Lion, but also addresses an issue using Preview as an editor with that version of the operating system. Otherwise, the app is ready to rock when OS X Mountain Lion comes a-callin' later this month.
The release notes also call out a few fixes unrelated to OS X Mountain Lion, such as changing the Edit command so it will no longer open editor windows in front when Fetch is in the background, crashes when the Fetch.log file could not be created and even improved compatibility with Windows NT servers.
Fetch 5.7.2 can be downloaded as a 15-day free trial from the company's website, and free licenses are also available for users in educational institutions (including home schools) and for tax-exempt charitable organizations.
