We all survived a long, national nightmare waiting for the white iPhone 4, which was delayed a handful of times before finally being made available in late April. The question now is, could the same fate soon befall a newly leaked white iPod touch that may be introduced this fall?
AppleInsider is reporting that parts have turned up for a fifth generation iPod touch which indicate Apple may offer the slim media player in white as well as black this fall, in keeping with a new tradition started with the iPhone 4. As you may recall, Apple had promised a white iPhone 4 when the device was introduced in June, 2010, only to hit several delays. The ivory handset was finally released nearly a year later, on April 28.
Now, iFixDirect (via Technobuffalo) has turned up what appears to be “a white front cover for a next-generation iPod touch,” according to AppleInsider. “Other than the color difference, the alleged part does not show any major changes to the device.”
That’s not surprising, considering that this year’s iPhone 5 announcement is encroaching on the traditional fall music-centric event -- which would seem to indicate that the iPod touch may simply get a modest update this year as Apple puts the focus on its latest and greatest handset. Such a move makes a lot of sense, since last year’s iPod touch was a significant upgrade, complete with Retina Display, front and rear cameras and A4 processor to match the iPhone 4.
As noted by AppleInsider, evidence found in recent iOS 5 betas suggest that the next iPod touch may not be viewed as a new generation of the device, with references to an “iPod4,2” that seem to indicate the hardware will remain mostly the same, with the choice of white or black -- and the introduction of iOS 5 -- the only real changes.
White has become a popular color (or is that absence of color?) choice for iPhone 4 fans, helping to keep interest high with the latest model, particularly in the wake of Cupertino having shifted an announcement for the next model from the usual June timetable into either September or October.
