If you frequently use FileMaker Pro databases on your desktop computer but have been frustrated that there’s no mobile solution, your prayers have been answered: Apple subsidiary FileMaker, Inc. has just released both an iPhone and an iPad edition of FileMaker Go into the App Store.
Available in separate versions for the iPhone or iPad, FileMaker Go now allows FileMaker Pro users to easily view, edit and search for information in their FileMaker databases, right from your mobile device. An ideal solution for mobile teams, FileMaker Go provides access to databases created with FileMaker Pro and hosted on FileMaker Server or FileMaker Pro.
“Imagine being able to check inventory levels, update the status of a project or add a new customer contact and share it with your remote sales team -- just a few of the many workgroup tasks made easy with FileMaker Go for iPhone or iPad,” explained Ryan Rosenberg, vice president of marketing and services for FileMaker, Inc. “We are genuinely excited about the ways FileMaker Go caters to mobile users who need remote interaction with their data.”
FileMaker Go allows access to databases residing on either a Mac or PC using a local wireless network, or over the Internet via both Wi-Fi and 3G. Any changes are instantly updated in the hosted file, making it easy to add, modify or delete data on the go, as well as sort and navigate through records, open new windows and switch between layouts.
Longtime FileMaker Pro users also don’t need to be concerned that FileMaker Go is a watered-down version of their favorite database application, either. Many of the most popular FileMaker Pro features are supported on the mobile versions, including Tab controls, Quick Find, Web Viewers, External SQL Data Sources, containers, portals and even most scripts.
Of course, the FileMaker experience has been enhanced for the iPhone and iPad -- both apps work in portrait and landscape views, automatically switching as necessary. You can pinch, swipe, rotate and zoom to manage your data as well as searching, modifying and sorting records. Best of all, existing FileMaker Pro layouts look amazing on the large iPad display, with no modification necessary for most solutions.
FileMaker Go for iPhone requires iOS 4.0 or higher and is available now for $19.99, while FileMaker Go for iPad requires iOS 3.2 or higher and is available now for $29.99.
