Oh, come on -- you can’t say you didn’t see this one coming. A Chinese manufacturer is exhibiting at CES 2011 and showing off a next-generation iPad 2 case, complete with a mockup of what everyone thinks Apple’s sequel will look like.
AppleInsider is reporting on the first sighting of an iPad 2 mockup at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, which comes courtesy of Chinese manufacturer Dexim. According to Engadget, the mockup is being used to show off a next-generation case for the tablet device which features a Bluetooth keyboard with magnets used to attach itself.
Although it doesn’t prove anything, Dexim’s machined aluminum mockup iPad 2 matches the form factor used for the cases which were recently spotted online from China and quickly pulled by Apple, suggesting that international trade site Alibaba.com might have been onto the real thing.
“Dexim’s aluminum iPad 2 mockup is slimmer than the first-generation iPad, with tapered edges reminiscent of the iPod touch and space for a front and back camera, as well as the space for the rumored larger speaker,” AppleInsider reveals.
Edit: We've received word from the Dexim rep at the CES show floor that the iPad case is for the current iPad model, not the purported iPad 2.
