Flash on Android An Exercise In Frustration

It looks like devout iPhone users may have some new ammunition to lob at their Android toting counterparts: While the iPhone and other iOS devices might be able to run Flash videos or applications, Flash running on an Android handset--a key differentiator if you were to ask any fandroid--is pretty terrible. If you're interested in some proof, Gigaom has the video to prove it.
According to Gigaom's Kevin Tofel, the test was conducted using a Nexus One handset running the latest version of Android. Even while using the the handset on a 25-Mbps FiOS broadband WiFi connection, Tofel's Flash viewing experience was unpleasant to say the least. In trying to view various video sources, such as ABC, Fox and Metacafe, he found the video to be less than responsive, with out of sync audio, frequent stuttering and all out refusals to load. While it could be argued that the the video tested was not optimized for viewing on a handset, it's worth considering that neither is the bulk of the video out there right now, making on-the-fly video consumption over an Android phone a depressing task to say the least.
So chin up brave iPhone users: We might not be able to run Flash on our smartphones, but neither can Android users--even though their handsets have the bits and pieces to make it possible.
