Normally we would probably vigorously ignore a game called Spy Mouse on the App Store, but when it comes from a development studio like Firemint that sort of changes everything. Their two previous series have been some of the most successful in the App Store's history.
Firemint was the developer behind the multimillion-selling Flight Control series as well as the amazing racing series Real Racing. Simply put, they have a knack for the iOS platform and we're always interested to see what their working on.
Spy Mouse seems to be a return to their gameplay roots as it borrows a bit from Flight Control. From the trailer, it looks as it you control the mouse by plotting his path around the house by drawing a line from one mouse hole to the next. The big gameplay difference is that you have to gather a bunch of items around the level without getting caught.
It's not exactly what we would have expected from Firemint, but the game still seems pretty neat. We'll be interested to give it a spin when it releases sometime this Summer. The only release date their currently giving for the game is "Summer 2011."
I got to play a little bit of this at GDC last year -- at the time they were calling it Agent Squeak. It's really fun, and just as adorable as the trailer looks.
