In an interview with TechCrunch, CEO Mike McCue announced that the Flipboard app achieved 3.5 million downloads in only 14 months and has exploded from 250 million flips per month to 550 million flips per month since June. Flips are similar to pageviews on a website, and are a decent indicator of reader engagement.
The peak hours for Flipboard use, according to McCue, are in the evening between 8 and 10, and then usage spikes again in the morning.
McCue pointed to apps like Flipboard, as well as HTML5, social media, the emergence of the tablet computer over the last 18 months as indicators that consumers are changing the way the consume content.
The interview was filmed and conducted with the Editor-In-Chief for TechCrunch, Erick Schonfeld, and is available for viewing at TechCrunch.
Flipboard is available for free from the Apple App Store.
