With all of the privacy concerns swirling around our digital lives these days, it’s no wonder that an entire cottage industry is beginning to crop up to help empower users into taking back control of their virtual lives. Gliph is the latest app to challenge that lofty goal.
Gliph, Inc. has announced the debut of their app for iOS and Android today at SXSW. The privately held company launched back in January and the free apps are the company’s first effort to launch a secure messaging, identity and contact management platform for mobile users.
“We believe people are multi-faceted and should be allowed to reflect a unique identity that matches each relationship, whether it be professional or social,” said Rob Banagale co-founder and CEO. “Gliph lets people reveal only what’s appropriate and earn trust over time -- just like we all do in off-line relationships.”
For starters, Gliph is billing itself as the first company to offer cross-platform apps for delivering encrypted text messages and personal information exchange. “We secure your first name better than most websites secure your credit card information,” Banagale explains.
Through simple native interfaces, Gliph allows users to select their own unique “gliph” pseudonym (a combination of three to five visual icons, such as a star, mushroom, and diamond). When Gliph users make connections with one another, they can reveal how much information they want to share on a person-by-person basis. Once connected through Gliph, users can use free in-app text messaging.
If you’re attending SXSW, be sure to stop by Gliph’s cart at the southwest corner of 4th Street and N. Congress Avenue, where the company will be offering free mobile device charging from noon to 1am CST each day -- and no doubt there will be a lot of new Gliph users downloading from the App Store as well. Gliph is compatible with all iOS devices running iOS 5.0 or later.
