If you're a fan of all things Google, you'll be happy to hear that Gmail got a new engine for iPhone and Android-powered devices.
Users of the browser-based email client should notice a performance boost. In addition, if you lose your network connection, Gmail will continue to allow you to check all those damn Facebook emails you get. Google uses "aggressive caching" and the awesome power of HTML5 and Gears to allow you to continue your email checking ways with a horrible connection, or even offline. Google says the new architecture will also allow them to roll outnew features quickly.
Google has also implemented a "floaty" bar at the top of the email browser. While you scroll up and down, the menu bar stays stationary at the top of the screen. Fancy!
Right now, it looks like Gmail is our new favorite iPhone email app. The ball's in your court now Apple. Check out the demo below.
If you're Gmail interface doesn't have all the nifty features yet, be patient. Google says they are rolling out the new stuff over the course of the day.
