Google Announces Google Chrome OS
Google announced their upcoming open source OS, Google Chrome OS.
Google says that the OS is being built upon a Linux kernal from the
ground up with a focus on speed and security. The new OS will be
optimized for users that spend a majority of their time online and will
utilize a minimalist UI.
Google states that they are in contact with hardware partners and will
be working with the open source community. The OS will run on x86 and
ARM chips. Netbooks are expected with Google Chrome OS installed in the
second half of 2010.
Google plans on releasing the open source code later this year.

From any available reports, just another Linux distribution. So what. Better be a lot more than that if it's gonna make any real difference.
