Although we’re not getting them on our iOS devices here as yet, it appears that Google is rolling out some search page changes for Apple’s mobile devices with a fresh new look and tab-based user interface. Anyone else seeing this?
9to5Mac is reporting that Google appears to be in the midst of a search page revamp this Memorial Day weekend (at least for those of us in the United States). The website notes that both iSpazio and phoneArena have reported on the changes, which include “big new icons” across the top, replacing the smaller text-only links.
The refresh also appears to introduce these icons to the quick access links under the More button as show above, offering up one-touch access to the web-based YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Places and more.
“These things usually take some time to propagate through Google’s servers so don’t panic if the revamped page won’t show up for you yet,” 9to5Mac notes. “Google could be in the process of rolling out the redesigned site, but it’s also possible that the new site appeared briefly as part of a testing process.”
To see if you’ve been blessed with the updated Google search, open Mobile Safari on your iOS device and try searching for something -- if you don’t see buttons like the images presented here, you’ll have to wait like the rest of us. Ping us in the comments if you see something new!
