Early this year, Rockstar Games brought Grand Theft Auto III to iOS devices to celebrate the game's ten-year anniversary (wow, time flies). At the time, the developer had also announced plans to bring further sequels in the franchise to our Apple devices. Today, we're headed back to the '80s with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Yes, somehow, ten years have also passed since the release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City -- feel old, yet? But as it's one of the best games in the series, $4.99 sounds like an awfully good deal to revisit the tale of Tommy Vercetti on our favorite devices.
"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is everything we loved about the '80s packed into a sprawling open world action game," said Rockstar founder, Sam Houser. "We’re thrilled to let mobile and tablet players experience everything Vice City has to offer."

While it appears the full Vice City experience is preserved on the iOS platform, the game did receive a few updates. Mainly, a touch-screen interface (obviously) and better resolution. The games textures are also upgraded, according to a press release.
Back in 2002, Vice City solidified the future prominence of both the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and arguably, the open-world genre.
The iOS version of Grand Theft Auto III was well-received in our review earlier this year, but the virtual controls remain a consistent concern. These games were developed with analog controllers in mind, and in some ways, the feeling is hard to replicate with a screen covered in buttons.
You can download Vice City from the App Store right now, but keep a look out for our review right here on Mac|Life in the coming days.
