If you’re a guitar player and maybe even an avid reader of Guitar World magazine, you’re no doubt familiar with their free universal app Lick of the Day -- which just got a fairly significant update, adding sponsored licks, AirPlay support and much more.
Guitar World magazine and developer Agile Partners have announced version 1.1 of their free, universal Guitar World Lick of the Day iOS app with a gaggle of new features for guitar-playing aficionados and fans alike. The company recently celebrated the app being downloaded more than 550,000 times, and for a limited time is slashing the prices on their one, three and six-month subscription packages.
Lick of the Day version 1.1 adds sponsored licks to the mix. These sponsorships are sold by the Guitar World sales team and involve product placement from gear manufacturers within the app. If you’re afraid that the sponsored plugs will dampen your in-app experience, don’t be -- the company promises they have found an “elegant” way to incorporate the sponsorships, with a free lick every two weeks to keep free users coming back for more.
If you prefer to see your licks on the big screen, Lick of the Day 1.1 has you covered with iOS 4.3 AirPlay support, allowing you to stream app licks to your HDTV wirelessly. The new version also brings full landscape orientation support to the iPhone and iPod touch, as well as synchronization of your favorite licks across all of your devices and the option to receive push notifications when new licks are available.
The best news of all is that Lick of the Day in-app subscriptions are now cheaper than ever for a limited time to celebrate the app’s continued success. A one-month package is now only $1.99, and three and six-month subscriptions are also available.
Guitar World Lick of the Day 1.1 is available now from the iOS App Store; the 150MB universal download is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later (iOS 4.3 or later required for AirPlay).
