Now here's an iPad hack that is both useful and inspiring. According to Engadget someone took their iPad with 3G, opened it up, removed the AT&T modem, and installed the circuit board innards from a Verizon Mifi inside.
While the amount of modifications made to the MiFi and the iPad were astounding, it wasn't exactly easy or without issue. For instance, the MiFi's bright green LED could be seen through the iPads screen. This error was quickly corrected by removal of the LED. The MiFi is powered by the iPad's battery and uses one of the iPads antennas for signall.
The end result -- a functional iPad that doubles as a Verizon MiFi hotspot. The only thing missing is GPS.
