We know you want one. Right now you're trying to justify the purchase of the new iPad and the only thing standing in the way is your old iPad. But your friends at Mac|Life are here to help you make up your mind. Here are some ways to turn your old--and suddenly unfashionable--tablet into cold, hard cash that you can funnel right back to Apple. (You didn't think we'd try to talk you out of it, did you?)
All prices represent iPads in good working condition, with minor wear, no engraving and the original box. Range represents 16GB Wi-Fi model to 64GB 3G model.
iPad 1: $154-$213
iPad 2: $278-$330
iPad 1: $110-$170
iPad 2: $200-$280
iPad 1: $170-$217
iPad 2: $280-$325
iPad 1: $160-$235
iPad2: $250-$340
Prices fluctuate wildly in eBay's online auctions, but we've seen 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2s sell for as much as $400 in like-new condition (though you'll take a hit from seller and PayPal fees); the less-popular 64GB 3G model, however, doesn't have as nearly as high a resell value, topping off at around $550. Even an iPad 1 with 16GB of storage and Wi-Fi fetches between $250 and $300, significantly more than any of the resellers above. Strangely, a 64GB 3G version only sells for about $50 more, but who are we to question eBay? Our favorite auction? A "white" 16GB iPad 1 "won at a company dinner overseas" that sold for $450.
