Privacy and data security continues to make headlines each week, and software developers are rising to the challenge with new and ever-more clever ways to combat the problem on our desktops.
MacPaw announced the release of Hider 2 this week, a Mac application which offers desktop and laptop users the confidence and security of being able to hide or even completely encrypt confidential data to keep it away from prying eyes.
Available on the Mac App Store, Hider 2 is a complete rebuild of the original application two years in the making, and the deceptively simple software makes security as easy as logging in, then dragging and dropping files or folders into the app.
Selecting "hide" will make the files unavailable to the Mac, and encrypting them is just an extra toggle switch away. Hider 2 works with both internal and external drives for an extra layer of security.
“With the rising need to hide and protect one’s confidential data, Hider 2 has arrived to level the playing field for all Mac users by making data encryption simple,” said Oleksandr Kosovan, CEO of MacPaw. “Now, both power and non-power users can securely hide and encrypt confidential data on their Macs."
MacPaw has worked hard to make it easier to keep track of hidden data, tapping into the power of the new OS X Mavericks Tags feature as well as the ability to create custom groups. Hider 2 even includes a built-in note-taking feature called Secure Notes, and a menu bar assistant makes it easy to find everything right from the Finder.
Hider 2 is now available from the Mac App Store and requires OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 or higher; the app is normally priced at $19.99, but available for a limited time at a 50 percent discount for only $9.99
