Just in case you needed another reminder that the days of total surprises from Apple may be long over, Sonny Dickson released photographs today of the fifth generation iPad's redesigned chassis. Dickson was the first person to reveal reliable photos of the iPhone 5c prior to its launch, and it looks as though this is a trend we can expect from him in the future.
Much as previous leaks have suggested, the new iPad will sport a design that strongly recalls the existing iPad mini. Thanks to the inclusion of thinner side bezels, the design does away with much of the device's bulk, resulting in a unit that's both thinner and lighter than its fourth generation counterpart.

The device is expected to make its debut at the October 22 media event that was revealed by 9to5 Mac earlier in the week. The images provide few clues as to whether the device will feature Touch ID, but most analysts are in agreement that it'll likely have the 64-bit A7 processor and 8-megapixel camera of the iPhone 5s.
The photos also show that the device will be available in the silver and "space gray" hues we know from the iPhone 5s, but there's no proof here that the new devices will feature the same surprisingly popular gold color that's been so popular in China in elsewhere. That's not to say it won't happen; but for now, it looks as though we'll have to wait until October 22 to find out.
Maybe there are some surprises left after all, however small.
