If you like thought-provoking articles in the same publication as nekkid lady parts, you’re probably a Playboy reader. If you also happen to own an iPad, you may soon be able to get these two great tastes to go great together.
BGR is reporting that Playboy magazine is heading to the iPad this March -- and unlike the existing iOS app, it will be completely uncensored. This news comes directly from founder Hugh Hefner himself, who announced the news via his Twitter account on Tuesday.
“Big news! Playboy -- both old and new -- will be available on iPad beginning in March,” Hefner tweeted.
That announcement isn’t newsworthy by itself, since Playboy has had an iPhone app for some time -- but thanks to Apple, all of the ladies featured there have remained clothed to protect innocent eyes from being corrupted (or something along those lines). The real news came when Hefner answered a Twitter follower on the subject of nudity.
“@hughmcook Playboy on iPad will be uncensored, Hugh,” Hefner replied.
Apparently, this means that either Apple is starting to loosen up on their restrictions for iPad content, or perhaps Hefner and Company have instead found a way around the limitation with a Mobile Safari solution. Our money is on a full-on iPad app, mostly because Apple tends to loosen up as time goes on but also because the timing is right, with subscription billing now looming on the horizon.
Of course, this isn’t Playboy’s first digital venture -- late last year, the company released an external hard drive priced at $299 which includes a complete digital catalog of every issue from 1953 to 2010. But let’s face it, who wants to lug around an external drive to read all those sophisticated articles on the plane when a single iPad can get the job done?
