Icarus Studios released today a Beta version of its Mac-compatible platform and the Fallen Earth MMO. The software will enable players to connect to the same live servers as PC gamers with game features specifically optimized based on the user's operating system.
The North Carolina-based game developers will utilize the open source software Wine to fuel the Mac-compatible version of the game. “The Mac OS X compatibility project is something we’ve been excited to see implemented for quite a while,” said Brad Lineberger, Chief Technical Officer of Icarus Studios. “Our goal for the project is to allow Mac users to run all of our existing and future games in their native OS.”
Fallen Earth is a post-apocalyptic massively multiplayer online role playing game with first-person shooting action. The game enables users to customize their own character and craft everything they use in the game, like vehicles, consumables, weapons and armor, while exploring over 70 unique towns with over 5,500 different missions. The game does require a subscription of $14.99 a month, though you can also choose between three different pre-paid subscription packages.
Mac gamers will need to run OS X 10.5 Leopard or later on an Intel-based machine to play Fallen Earth. If you're interested in playing the Beta version of the client, you can visit the official website.
