When the new Mac mini started shipping recently, a number of users described a strange screen flickering issue. The problem is associated with the use of an HDMI connection, and appears connected to the Intel HD 4000 graphics card. According to a new forum post, Intel is well-aware of the concern, and is working to provide a fix.
As noted by MacRumors, an Intel representative has addressed the ongoing concern of Mac mini screen-flickering on the company's forums. The company has, at the very least, finally acknowledged the problem, but it's unclear when a fix will actually become available.
"We are aware of the flickering issue, and there will be a fix provided in the future," writes an Intel rep named Nic. "Your OEM (Apple) will provide the driver with the fix when they are done configuring our driver (that has the fix)."
Unfortunately, any specifics as to exactly when we can expect the fixed driver are not mentioned. "An ETA on this is currently unknown," adds the Intel representative.
However, another Intel rep on a different Intel forum thread has stated the fix may show up in only a matter of days.
"A fix for this issue has been checked into the latest driver," wrote Robert_U. "We should be posting it to Intel Download Center within a few days. I will update this thread with the driver links once it has been posted."
The post from Robert_U was actually written a few hours before the post by Nic, and looking closer at the thread, it appears the original post was regarding a wider issue (including Windows users) with the Intel Graphics HD 4000.
Hopefully, Apple will send out the driver update quickly, assuming the issues are all connected (and it sounds like they are).
