Some people want the iPad so much, they're willing to pay more than 10 times the retail price on eBay.
In a Monday story on Bloomberg News, eBay said 2,600 iPads were listed on the site last week, and that one buyer in the United Kingdom paid $5,500 for an iPad. Though the report did not say which model iPad the presumably wealthy Briton bought, it noted that's more than 10 times the retail price of the cheapest iPad.
eBay also told Bloomberg that about 80 percent of sales were to buyers outside America, and that the average selling price of all models of iPad last week was $777.
The Unofficial Apple Weblog found a 64 GB iPad that sold for $5,000. The regular price of that model iPad is $699.
Pricing on eBay seems to have become more sane this week. We found one 16GB model that had a high bid of $660 on Tuesday night, a premium of about 32 percent.
There's also someone trying to sell a case of 10 16GB iPads, for $7,500, a roughly 50 percent markup over retail. We'll be surprised if anyone bids on that.
