As promised, today marked the first time that eager would-be iPhone 4 owners could get their mitts on the handset of their dreams--provided that handset was a black iPhone 4.

Mac|Life has scoured the web to bring you images and video of some of the finer points from the international launch events. While photos and video of the events still seems to be a little scarce, we've been able to wrangle up a few tidbits for you to feast your eyes on.

In Canada, the line-up outside the Toronto Eaton Centre Apple Store looked very much like the ones seen down in the States--only a bit colder and perhaps more polite.

Turning our attention to the far east, Hong Kong's launch day festivities kicked off at midnight and had it going on, with live entertainment, McDonalds and mineral water for those waiting in line. Check out Chris Chang's Hong Kong launch party video. You tell us: have you ever seen a happier line waiting for anything?

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, things were not as rosey as they seemed the around the rest of the globe. Those waiting in line to purchase their own little piece of Cupertino were horrified to discover that many Kiwi locations had no handsets to sell, as their anticipated iPhone 4 stock had simply failed to arrive. What few handsets available in the country were purportedly sold out by 4 pm.
