The new iOS 4.1 update for iPhone and iPod touch is out. The update--for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch family (except the first generation model)--will enable users to utilize the High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography capabilities of the devices, as well as Game Center and HD video uploading to YouTube (limited to the iPhone 4 and latest iPod touch 4th generation).
The new iOS 4.1 update will also have support for TV show rentals on iTunes, and adds additional support for AVRCP-supported accessories, like ear buds with build-in iPod controls.
For those that are unfamiliar, Game Center will enable users to send and receive friend requests between buddies, invite friends to multiplayer games over the 'net, play games together by auto-matching with other players, view achievements and discover cool new iOS games that their friends are playing. Game Center will only work with the iPhone 4, 3GS, and the iPod touch 2nd generation or later.
And to top it off, the new update will squash a few annoying bugs, like the iPhone 4 proximity sensor issue, the iPhone 3G's sluggish performance and the Nike+iPod annoyances. It will also add some improvements to Bluetooth.
To get iOS 4.1, plug in your device to its host computer and keep clicking "Check for Update" until iTunes finally lets you have a piece of that 4.1 pie. If your phone is currently jailbroken, you might want to skip out on this update.
So, why are you still staring? Launch iTunes, and go and get it!
