Tower defense games on the iPhone are extraordinarily common. Most of them fade into obscurity and are forgotten within days of their release. TowerMadness is one of the few and the proud that continues to stand above the rest and serve as a mark of quality. It's probably not as good or as popular as Fieldrunners, but this new update is definitely a step in the right direction.
Most importantly, the update is adding is a set of five completely free maps to the game. These include: Delphi - A Visit to the Oracle, Dune - Sands of Eternity, Enigma - A Twisted Puzzle, Pinball - Set the Record, and Pitchfork - The Farmer's Fight.
The update will include an overhaul of some sections of the game's user interface. It will also be supporting iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod Touch Retina display screens, so the game will now look even sharper on high end iOS devices in 960x640 resolution.
TowerMadness [iTunes Link] tasks players with protecting a flock of sheep from an invading army of aliens that are trying to abduct them. Much of the game is similar to tower defense classics, with players placing missile launchers to defend the area against the incoming army. Critics have praised TowerMadness for being extremely well balanced and good humored.
TowerMadness is currently available for $2.99.
