The last two games developed by Chair Entertainment were 2009's Shadow Complex and the recent release Inifinity Blade in late 2010. The former released on the Xbox 360 through Microsoft's digital download service, Xbox Live Arcade, while the latter came out on Apple iOS devices. In a recent interview with Joystiq, Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games (Chair's publisher) said that Infinity Blade has in fact been even more successful than the well-received Shadow Complex.
This is surprising for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Infinity Blade has cost only $5.99 for most of its lifetime (though it's on sale today!) Shadow Complex by comparison is priced at $15. It's also surprising because Shadow Complex was considered a success by most measures and was no slouch in the sales department. It sold more than a half a million copies.
Rein didn't specify why Epic considers Infinity Blade more successful. So we can't be sure whether he means that Infinity Blade grossed more, was downloaded more times, or even if it was just better received by critics and fans. Epic Games is a major publisher in the video game industry, and if they start seeing more success with their iOS titles than their mainstream console releases, that could have very interesting ramifications in the video game world.
