Forget red state or blue state, a new digital Mason-Dixon line is forming.
Jumptap just released a map that breaks down smartphone preference by state, and the "new data establishes an evolving narrative of a North vs. South divide in the ongoing battle of the two top mobile operating systems."
OK, so here is how their data breaks down: Android is the leader in the South and Southwest grabbing California, Texas, and Florida. The Midwest and Northeast, including New England and Illinoise, go iOS. Blackberry is still killing it in New York state.
Yes! Maps!

Jumptap used data from over 83 million users on the their mobile ad network during the first half of 2011. According to that data, Android holds the top spot in terms of overall share, but iOS comes in a close second. Ads on iOS devices, interestingly enough, outperform ads on Android and RIM.
The data and report were primarily produced for advertisers. Paran Johar, Chief Marketing Officer for Jumptap, said, "This new data reveals some interesting patterns for advertisers to consider when targeting consumers using Android devices vs. iOS devices." As in, should you want to target iPhone or Android users in a particular part of the country, this data will help you decide how to go.
Which is cool; we just love maps.
