Still haven’t bought an iPad, even though Apple just made it even easier to do by stocking the tablet in more than 1,700 Target stores across the country this month? Maybe you’d rather hit your local Wal-Mart instead? It appears that you’ll be able to do exactly that soon enough.
MacRumors is reporting that the iPad appears to be making its way to at least 1,000 Wal-Mart stores by the end of October, with 800 additional stores to be added in November. In fact, your local Wally World may already have them in stock -- an eagle-eyed MacRumors reader in Denver, Colorado sent the website the above photo which clearly shows the device already on store shelves there.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Wal-Mart getting the iPad -- back in May, the giant retailer announced that they expected to be stocking Apple’s tablet “later this year,” most likely in advance of the holiday shopping season which is fast approaching. That day appears to be sooner than later.
On Friday night, MacRumors noted that Wal-Mart “sent an e-mail to its store managers today outlining the iPad models and related accessories that should be making their way to store shelves in the near future.” Based on screenshots of that e-mail, all six iPad variations will be offered in Wal-Mart stores, although the tipster’s particular location would only stock five units of each in addition to 10 each of the various accessories (which includes the usual keyboard, dock, power supply, Camera Connection Kit, AppleCare and case).
According to MacRumors, Wal-Mart currently offers 2,800 “SuperCenter” stores across the United States and 750 smaller regular outlets, which is a pretty formidable lineup to get the iPad into the mainstream. Stores offering the iPad will have a live demo inside a case with a looping video presentation of what the device offers.
