She may not be much to look at judging from the images here, but this could be your first glimpse at the long-awaited iPad 2 Camera app (or at least the bottom half of it, anyway) -- but don’t get too excited, the evidence seems to indicate that the tablet may be keeping its current screen resolution.
9to5Mac is following up on an earlier report that seemed to indicate the iPad 2 will indeed have a camera. Thanks to their tipster “Sonny D.,” the website now has a trio of screenshots “assembled from files within the SDK of the iPad Camera.app.”
The question now is, will the next tablet from Apple have just a front-facing camera or also add one on the back as well? Leaked shots from case manufacturers seem to indicate there may indeed be two cameras on the iPad 2 -- but they may stick to the existing resolution of the screen display rather than go Retina like the iPhone 4 and fourth-gen iPod touch.
“These screenshots are 1024x768 which indicate the same screen resolution as the current iPad,” 9to5Mac notes. “That might upset those hoping for more a Retina-ish display in iPad 2. This may only be because the current simulator only simulates 1024x768 so those hoping for more pixels shouldn’t lose hope.”
Too early to tell, but we’re hoping Apple may take the wraps off the next iPad soon enough.
